My teaching philosophy.
My teaching philosophy is fundamentally inspired by the notions of PLAY and CONNECTION. The goal of play is to foster an environment that is engaging and flexible enough to accommodate the various types of learners in the classroom. Once engaged, I use methods of inquiry that aim to bolster empathy for and connection with others. Equity necessarily involves recognizing the process of “othering” and connecting to “other.”
My personal values of equity, inclusion, and empowerment provide the foundation for reimagining systems and processes that mitigate anxiety, fear, shame, and guilt. The physical environment plays a role in this, the elimination of punitive assessment plays a role in this, and the integration of digital technologies also play a role in my teaching philosophy.
