“Spiritualism & Magick” is an intimate evening with Dr. Genie Deez in which he lectures on the origins of American Spiritualism and the modern seance followed by an immersive séance during which participants attempt to make spirit contact.

What began as spirit rapping with the Fox Sisters in Hydesville New York during the winter of 1848, exploded into a plethora of methods and tools to communicate with the dead. What gets obscured too often are the deep connections between Spiritualism, Abolitionism, African American religious traditions, Indigenous American traditions, and the Women’s Suffrage Movement. The lecture portion of the evening dives into several of these forgotten vectors.

After the lecture, participants are invited to engage in a live séance. Disclaimer: a jacket or overcoat is recommended as spirit presence has often been described as a coldness in the atmosphere.
